RECAP: Neil met a new girl who seemed liked good girlfriend material, Gai got admitted into the Secret Society AND into the Frat at La Fiesta Tech, she chugged some juice to stop being a witch, Neil beat down the the guy who pick pocketed him, Gai randomly makes out with the strangest guys, she moved out of the dorms and I got my first Genie!!! YAY!!

“Neil!! Phone!” Getting out of the hot tub I hurried toward the phone.

“Please don’t let it be mom and Dane! Please don’t let it be mom and Dane!” I muttered underneath of my breath as I stood in front of the phone. A few days had passed and I still hadn’t heard from Gai. If it was mom and Dane they were gonna wanna know where she was and I didn’t have that answer. Taking a deep breath I reached for the phone.

“He-hello?” I cleared my throat to get the squeak out.

“Hiya Neil! What’s going on up there?”

Blowing out a breath I shoved the phone between my shoulder and cheek as I wiped at the sweat on my forehead. “Hey kiddo! What’s going on?”

“I asked you first!”

Grinning, I shook my head. Alice. Little sister was a trip. Sometimes I forgot to call her, okay most times I forgot to call her, but it never failed that she would call us. Usually Gai spoke to her and just relayed the information to me since I was usually…busy. Rubbing at the back of my neck I wondered if I was as much of a dick to everyone else as I sounded to myself.

“Hey sis! Nothing much! Same shit, different day. And don’t you go repeating that word. I’ll have to wash your mouth out if I hear you using it!”

“Neil, I’m fifteen, almost sixteen years old! I’ve heard those words before. Heck, mom and dad curse all the time.”

“Well, don’t you start.”

“Yeah, yeah! How’s school?”

“It’s alright! Almost done with sophomore year.”

“And how are you and the bedwarmers?”

“Wh-what?”

“Gai tells me how much of a man whore you are. Stop stuttering Neil. By my last count you’ve slept with at least four different girls within the last year.”

“Alice!”

“Neil!”

“Look, I like these girls. I really do!” I said when she snorted loudly in my ear. “It’s just that…”

“You’re not ready to settle down yet. Blah, blah, blah! Of COURSE you’re not ready to settle down. You’re only twenty. Mom and dad would have a fit if you brought home some girl and said you were going to marry her. They’re still adjusting to the fact that everyone is gone.”

“Everyone isn’t gone,” I said softly.

She sighed. “Yeah, but it’s not the same. Mom and dad are used to the house being full. It’s just not the same.”

“Hey! Hey! Cheer up kid! Don’t you have a break coming up? You, mom and Dane can come for a visit! It’ll be like old times.”

“Uh huh! That’s not what Gai said.”

“What? You’ve talked to her?”

“Course I have!” Alice sucked her teeth loudly in my ear. “I talk to her more than I talk to you! And don’t think that you can get off topic about all the chicks that you’re stringing along!”

“I’m not…I’m not stringing anyone along! Every girl that I have sex with…ya know what!? We are not discussing this! You will remain a virgin forever! Are we clear?”

She laughed in my ear. “Whatever bro! Love you Neil!”

“Love you too! Hey Alice?”

“Uh huh?”

“Where’s Gai at?”

“I’ll tell her that you’re asking about her next time we talk.”

“Alice!”

“Bye!!”

Laughing, I hung up the phone. God, sometimes I forgot how much fun it was to just talk to my family. God, I thought as I scrubbed a hand over my face, I was a prick!

I thought I liked Nicole but I realized that I didn’t really. She annoyed me. What I thought was cute wasn’t anymore and we really didn’t have that much in common. She was looking to have a steady boyfriend and I wasn’t boyfriend material. God, I couldn’t even be the kind of brother that I always thought I was.

“Sooo…what do you say Neil? Do you want to, you know?”

I couldn’t help myself. I recoiled away from her gyrating hips. Me? Recoiling away from gyrating hips? I would have never thought that but the fact of the matter was…I was disgusted with myself. I mean, how did all the girls on campus see me? Was I just a walking penis without a face?

“Nicole…what do  you like about me?”

She shrugged. “You’re fun to hang around. Besides…I’ve heard stories about you around campus. Why haven’t you made the moves on me? And please don’t use that tired excuse of you’re trying to respect me.”

“Look Nicole…I do respect you. You seem like a nice girl but…I really need to focus on my schoolwork now. I need to buckle down, find my sister. There’s some things that we agreed to do and I’ve been slacking on my end. I-”

“Neil, you’re not boyfriend material. I know that. Sure, I’m looking for a boyfriend but I know that it couldn’t be you! You’re like the guy a girl sleeps with before she gets married. I heard you were good. I just want to see how good.”

All of the sudden I felt like I was going to vomit. I don’t know if I was sick to my stomach because I suddenly realized how everyone saw me or of I was sick to my stomach because those words coming out of Nicole’s mouth just seemed wrong.

“Nicole?”

“Neil, seriously! Did you seriously think that I was looking at you for a boyfriend? Sure you and your family have money but my parents would kill me if I brought you home. They’re benefactors here. They know who is who and they knew that I was spending time with you so they had you looked up. I was warned away from you. In no uncertain terms actually.” She shrugged.

“Sooo…did you want to get down or what?”
