Hey, it’s Neil. I’m looking for Gai. I haven’t seen her since yesterday and I really wanted to talk to her and finish up our conversation. I mean, sure I’ve been busy but she’s family. I should have paid more attention to her right? Especially considering that she’s so much younger than everyone here. I walked up to her room and was surprised to see another picture hanging on the door.

“Umm…hello?”

“Hey!I’m Chloe. You must be Neil! Your sister told me about her empty dorm and since I was looking for a place I quickly snapped it up.”

“Whoa, whoa! What do you mean Gai’s empty dorm. Where’d she go?”

Chloe frowned. “Oh, you didn’t know? She moved out early yesterday.”

“Moved out? Wh-where’d she go?”

Chloe shrugged. “I don’t know. I saw her yesterday at the Society meeting but other then her telling us that she had moved she didn’t say much.”

“Society meeting?” So, what Gai had tried to tell me was true. She was involved with the Secret Society which meant that she was probably was part of the frat. Damn it, when had they grown so far apart that he didn’t even know what was going on in her life?

Turning, I woodenly walked upstairs and sat down at an empty computer. After a moment I turned on the computer and started to do some homework.

PhotobucketI mean, I was seriously trying to focus but you see how hard it is for me to focus? I was minding my own business and she came up behind me and started to dance. I stared straight ahead but I could still see her reflection in the computer screen. And I gotta admit that I was enjoying her assets. I didn’t even know her name and she always darted away before I got a chance to talk to her.

Unable to focus now I sighed and got up from the desk and decided to soak in the hot tub to clear my head. What was I going to say to mom and Dane when they asked about Gai? I couldn’t tell them that I didn’t know where she was. They’d kill me. I was supposed to be watching out for her and instead…

Closing my eyes I rested my head on the lip of the tub. My eyes flew open when a shadow fell across me. Please don’t let it be Monica. Monica would want to have sex and for once I really wasn’t in the mood.

“Hello.”

“Hi!” I grinned at her breathless tone of voice. Shoving away from the wall I got out from the hot tub and walked toward her.

“And you are?”

“Nicole. I-I just saw you sitting there looking so sad and I just felt bad.”

“Well, I don’t feel sad anymore.”

Grabbing her hand I brought it to my mouth and pressed a gentle kiss to the back. I could feel a shiver go through her before I released her hand.

“I’m Neil.”

“Yes, I know.”

We continued to stare at each other until I finally shook my head to clear it. She wasn’t that attractive but there was something about her eyes that just made me feel comfortable with her.

“Hey, did you want to grab something to eat? Maybe go for a walk or something?”

“Sure, that sounds lovely.”

Photobucket

“No, you’re the lovely one,” I said smoothly as I pulled a rose from thin air. The practiced move made me feel sick to my stomach. Especially when she looked at the flower as if no one had ever given her one before. Her eyes closed as she buried her nose in the blossoms.

“Let me just go and put some clothes on and we can head on out alright?”

“Sure.”

Whatever it was about Nicole one thing was for sure. She was fun to hang out with. I couldn’t help but compare her to some of the other chicks I had…well, I hadn’t really dated any of the others. I just slept with them. With Nicole there really wasn’t a rush. She was a nice girl. The kind of girl that mom would like.

Look at me! Having a fucking pillow fight in the middle of the street and enjoying it. What the hell?

“Uncle! Uncle!” I finally cried. She whacked me one more time before she dropped the pillow to her side.

“I told you I’m the pillow fighting master! I have skills!” She did a funky little dance which made me laugh hysterically.

“Come on you! Let’s go in and do some-”

“Hey! Hey! Hey man! What’s going on with you and the pretty lady?”

Neil turned around to see a familiar face.

Photobucket

“Oh no! No! We are not going to do this again! You stole from me. I want my money back!”

“I didn’t steall anything. If you were silly enough to drop the money now…well then it’s fair game!”

“It was in my pocket!” I snapped.

“Was it?”

Neil frowned. He seemed to recall his wallet being in his pocket but what-”Hold on! You’re not going to make me think that you didn’t steal any money from me. I know it was was you. And you know what? I have photos to prove it!”

“Hey! Hey! Calm down friend!” He slowly backed away. “Enjoy your date with the pretty lady.”

I watched him race away then cursed when I realized that he hadn’t given me my money back. I spun around when a hand landed on my shoulder.

“Neil? Are you okay?”

Blowing out a breath I slapped a grin on my face. Hopefully it would wipe the worried look on her face. “Yeah, I’m fine. Come on, let’s go inside the pavilion and look around.”

Nicole couldn’t play worth crap but she was game anyways.  She was pretty cool for a chick.

“You ready for the finale Nicole?”

“Oh yeah!” she said loudly then gave an awful Mick Jaguar impression. Icouldn’t do anything but laugh.

We talked about any and everything as the night wore on.

“Are you close to your family?”

She shrugged. “It’s just my mom and I. She wants me to be something I’m not and I just want to be me. We don’t talk that much. What about you? Are you close to your fam?”

“Yeah. We’ve always been close.”

“How many of there are you?”

“I have…had two little sisters. One of them died. Then it’s mom, my stepdad Dane and my dad.”

“Are  you close with your biological father?”

Shrugging, I kicked at a pebble on the stage. “We’re alright but not as close as I am to my mom and Dane.”

They fell silent as the sun started to raise. “Well, I guess it’s time for me to take you home.”

“I’ve had fun Neil.”

“Me too Nicole, me too!”

“Hey, hey! You two lovebirds still here? What say you we play  a game of chess or-”

I donn’t know what set me off. Maybe it was the smarmy way he was eyeballing Nicole but before I knew it I was flying toward the man.

Photobucket

“Hey! HEY!! What the heck is going on! Man! Wait…wait! I’m a lover not a fighter!”

I dusted off my hand as I watched the guy get up from the ground.

“You’ve just been Neilified, my friend!” I said.

“Oh man! Here goes your money! Just leave me the hell alone. You’re a sick, sick man beating up on an old man like me! I can’t believe you would do something like that! You know how wrong that is? Just wrong! “

He walked away rubbing at the small of his back and muttering all the way about the ‘youth of society’ and how ‘they had no respect for a man trying to make a decent living’. Snorting I searched for Nicole. Following the sound of muttering I went up the stairs and entered a little alcove off to the right.

Oh good Lord! She was the cutest thing. Who, on a date, would bring their homework? I didn’t that for sure. Sneaking up behind her I laid a hand on her shoulder. She didn’t even jump as she continued to mutter to herself.

“What’s your major?” I asked in a low voice.

“I haven’t picked one yet. Look, I’m a little busy here. Do you mind?”

I bit back a laugh. Oh god! She was too good for me.  I could tell that already.

Photobucket

She did bring me flowers later that night but I was kind of leery of her so I stayed inside. I didn’t know if I was ready for a relationship and Nicole had relationship written all over her. She was smart, funny, cute in a weird sort of way, and she didn’t just want sex from me. It was completely different from what I was used to.

Like I said she was too good for me.

And I, for sure, wasn’t good enough for her.
