Dad was moving up int he company so he had to entertain a lot of people. He brought this one lady over who flirted constantly with him. He took it all in stride until she got all up in his face and then he had to politely tell her to step back. She didn’t seem to mind that much. Maybe it’s the way that dad said it. He wasn’t rude. Just told her how he was very much in love with his wife and that he had the family he had always wanted. She just nodded and took a step back. Then she started eyeballing me and that’s when I headed back out to the pool.

It was warmer now and I didn’t mind spending hours out there when I was out of school or off of work.

I especially didn’t mind it if it kept me away from weirdo ladies that I had no interest in knowing at all.

Mom can’t really talk about her work but she came home with a big grin on her face. She winked at me and I knew she had gotten another promotion. Plus she gave me my allowance ahead of time.

“Here, put that with the rest of your college fund money.”

My family may be rich but mom and dad believed in working toward what you want. Which was why I was studying for scholarships and putting away my work money for school. I knew that mom and dad would help me if I needed it but I didn’t want to need it. Neil and Gai had worked and earned theirs. I wanted to follow in their footsteps.

No one had to work that night so after dinner we all gathered in Neil’s old room which had somehow been converted into the band room and grabbed our instrument of choice.

And with one of mom’s friends looking on we played. It’s moments like this that I really look forward to…and that I’ll always cherish.
