After some shopping at Redfalls one and only mall, we stopped and got something to eat. Mom and dad sat down and I went to the bathroom. Walking back to I stopped when I saw a guy coming in from the deck. I must have been staring because he stopped and grinned at me.

“Hi.”

“H-hello.”

“My names Jerrod. You are?”

“Uh…I’m…you…ALICE!”

Please, do NOT ask me why I shouted my name like that. A few heads turned in the diner and I shifted. Jerrod’s grin only widened making the scar on the side of his face flex. He must have seen me looking at his scar because he reached up and fingered it.

“Sporting accident. So, what do you do for fun?”

Oh God! I don’t what made me do it. Seriously I don’t! But all of the sudden I just…

…busted out with a few of my favorite dance moves. Okay, okay! Stop staring at the picture! I mean it! STOP STARING!

I was standing there, looking like Wonder Woman, my heart hammering in my chest and then Jerrod laughed.

“That was awesome!!”

“Thanks.”

“Did you want to get something to eat?”

“Umm…I’m here with my parents.”

He nodded. “Where are they at?”

Looking around for them I had to laugh. “Right over there.”

“Sucking each others faces off.”

He waggled his eyebrows. “I can’t say I blame him. You look like your mom.”

I never know how to respond when someone says that since she’s not my birth mother. “Thanks,” I said finally.

“So, let me buy you dinner. And give you my number to call me when you’re legal.”

“Oh! Um…okay.”

I watched as he scrawled down his number and then waving to me went to speak to the waiter. He looked up and gave me a final wave before he headed out the door.

After I finally calmed down I ordered a nice meal, although the waiter said that Jerrod had told her I could order whatever I wanted, I went for something cheap.

“Bon appetite,” she said with a flamboyant gesture.

There was something about her that I didn’t like. I don’t know. She just gave off that vibe. I tried to smile but I knew it fell flat. She walked away from the table. It was a good thing I ate before the photographer showed me the photos.

Okay, that’s not so bad. Her just trying to check for spots.

But that right there. That’s just wrong.

So, very, VERY wrong.
