Roy and Donna got along great. Donna was always following Roy around and he would spin around and knock her off her feet before licking the mess out of her. It was funny to watch. I overheard mom and dad talking about breeding Roy and Donna. I didn’t know how that was going to work what with Roy being so big and Donna being so small.Ya know what, I don’t even want to think about that.  Although having more puppies around the house would be cool.

I started to take my dance more seriously. Maybe I’d make a career out of it or something. I don’t know. I’m keeping my options open. I just know that I really enjoy it. Plus the ‘rents are always encouraging me to follow what I love. Maybe I should fall in love with designing since mom and dad aren’t too concerned about wallpaper. It’s been years and the walls are still bare. I suppose that shows you how not into appearances my family is. We seriously keep it low key. I like that.

When dad’s not working or spending times with the family he’s writing. He’s taking his knowledge of medicine and mom’s knowledge of being a super spy( I have to laugh when I say that because then I start humming the theme to Austin Powers and she HATES that) and is going to make it into a murder mayhem novel. He spends hours at the computer, rubbing at his chin and humming to himself before typing. Most of the times his eyes are glazed over as he tapping rapidly at the keys but sometimes I hear him cursing underneath his breath and he’s pounding the backspace button.

Sometimes I see him staring at the pictures of mom and Neil’s dad(see, that’s why people shouldn’t keep their kids room exactly the same when they go away to college) and an unreadable look will cross his face before he shakes his head and continues writing.

Mom’s taking up painting. At first she dad standing there for long periods of time before he told her that she had to figure something else out because he refused to stand there. Finally she just did a quick sketch and did it that way. She says that once all of us get married that we better paint pictures of our spouses. Something about a legacy to past down to all the future generations.

“Mom?”

“Yeah baby?”

“How come you don’t talk to your parents anymore? I mean you’re always talking about family and everything like that but you never talk about your family.”

I watched as she carefully rinsed off her paintbrush before she put her palette down and looked at me. I shifted from foot to foot as time stretched uncomfortably. I finally opened my mouth to say never mind when she shook her head.

“My parents and I don’t really get along. I tried calling them a couple of times but…” She shrugged. “You guys are my family. And I’m alright with that.”

She wasn’t all right with it. I could tell. There was a sad look in her eyes as she talked about her parents. Reaching out I squeezed her hand. She grinned in response.

“Hey, you want to do some karaoke?”

“You with the sad eyes don’t be discouraged. Ooooh, I realize it’s hard to take courage in a world full of people you can lose sight of it all and the darkness inside you can make you fell so small.”

“But I see your true colors shining through! I see your true colors and that’s why I love youuuu! So don’t be afraid to let them show, your true colors.True colors are beautiful like a rainbow!!!”

For some reason Donna started peeing on the floor again. I don’t know what that was about but it was pissing mom off. No pun intended. Mom was used to walking around the house barefoot but she stopped that about the second time she stepped into a puddle.

“Bad dog! Bad dog! Donna, what is wrong with you? You know better to pee on the floor! Does Roy pee on the floor? Well does he?” Mom put her hands on her hips as if she expected Donna to answer. Donna whimpered and bowed her head causing mom to heave a sigh.

“It’s alright Donna. It’s okay. Hopefully you’ll grow out of that sometime soon.”

And don’t you know that Donna did grow out of it. Actually she grew up. Even threw herself a little party…apparently. And she didn’t even invite me. Haha! That was a joke. The photographer got it.

And it didn’t take long for Donna and Roy to get it on. I didn’t even want to see that but apparently dad and that lady thought it was something to watch over. By the way my mom doesn’t like that lady around the house when she’s not here. Dad makes sure that he doesn’t spend too much time with her. And he makes sure that he keeps a little distance between the two of them. Make that a lot of distance between the two of them.

And I can see why. Sure, my dad is cute in a dad sort of way but hello? He’s married. You should have seen her strutting in front of him. Heifer.
